VERN KLEINSCHMIDT CUP A PART OF GALA WEEKEND OF FESTIVITIES

Mon 2 September 2019

Gunsynd Park will present the running of the Vern Kleinschmidt Goondiwindi Cup this Saturday, September 7, as a part of a weekend of gala festivities.  It is an action packed weekend with what appears to be a break in all three football codes following the Emus success last weekend, the Hawks win on Saturday gaining direct passage into the Grand Final on September 14 and the Rugby League boys narrowly missing out on a Grand Final berth in Reserve Grade yesterday.

Lack of general rain has been a problem for everyone, none the least the Race Club. Luckily, the club has access to the town effluent water making the track very presentable in condition.

After the races, the club will provide evening entertainment with Local musical product Will Day  entertaining the crowd from 5.30pm. The club has a late license through to 11pm.

Vern Kleinschmidt Community Trust guests will be catered for under the Chesterfield tent on the southern end of the mound and other sponsors and party groups will be on the mound in the front of the public area.

The new undercover section will open this week with the “Birdcage Promotion”.  This special event has been staged around the Goondiwindi Cup Day and early bookings have indicated a large up take on the offer. Bookings are essential for catering and tickets can be booked on www.trybooking.com.au/BEKIQ at $50 each or general admission is $10 and payable at the gate.

The on-course tote is a great back up to those who are looking for the exotic betting and the usual contingent of bookmakers will be on hand to service the punting needs.

Feature event on the card will be the Vern Kleinschmidt Community Trust Goondiwindi XXXX GOLD CUP and over 60 of the Kleinschmidt guests will enjoy the local produce of Gooralie Pork & Inglewood chicken for the luncheon. Vern’s nephew, Bill and his wife Pat Heck will be on hand to present the Cup and represent the Kleinschmidt family.

Gates open at 11.30am and the fist local race will be at 1.30pm.

The next highlight for the club after this Cup will be the annual “Bush to Port Race Day” and Christmas on the weekend of November 29 & 30. The last two years has seen two extremely successful events for the Goondiwindi Race Club with the very successful Peter Moody night and the Winx night both on the Friday night before the annual “Bush to Port Race Day”.

This year will be no exception this year when the club joins with the PCYC to host Rupert McCall on Friday November 29 at the PCYC Riverside Function Centre. Rupert and his family will then be special guests of the Port of Brisbane at the Races on the Saturday. Tickets will soon be on sale for this wonderful night. There will be two levels of tickets with a two course dinner package at $50 per head or seat only $15.

What a magnificent night it will be. Rupert on the Macintyre. Stay tuned for that one and book the date, but for this week, it is Racing at its Best in the West at Gunsynd Park Goondiwindi. See you there.
