GOONDIWINDI RACE CLUB STAGES ANOTHER BOGGABILLA CUP
Winter racing returns to Gunsynd Park this Saturday when the Goondiwindi Race Club will stage the CARRINGTON COTTON BOGGABILLA CUP at Gunsynd Park.
The club lost the last meeting due to wet weather. The Inglewood Cup and Battle of the Bush, which was eventually run at Toowoomba, was won by Happy Cino. Happy Cino will be contesting the Boggabilla Cup on Saturday. In a great gesture of support, all of the June sponsors have transferred their sponsorship and support to combine with the Boggabilla Cup sponsors to make one super Saturday of country racing.
Covid 19 and wet tracks have certainly played havoc in recent times but the club is looking forward to a fine winter’s day of racing.
The Club received a near record level of 86 nominations for the six-event program which will get underway at 1.30pm. Feature event on the card will be the Carrington Cotton Boggagbilla Cup over 1400 metres and an even field is expected to line up in the feature with strong support races as well.
This year will see the Boggabilla Cup be the first leg of the Triple Crown of Border Cups to be held over meetings at St George and Talwood. Should the winner of Saturdays Boggbailla Cup go on and win both St George & Talwood Cup, the owners will take home a $10,000 cash bonus known as the Triple Crown Border Cups Series.
Another highlight will be the appearance of local hero Fitzroy Boy who always run his best races at Gunsynd Park. The locals will be well represented with Zaragigi who is so close to a win and Whostoppedtherain and Camarillo, both of which are racing well.
The club will present the usual race day facilities and while you can pay at the gate, patrons can also complete pre-paid bookings at https://www.trybooking.com/CAQBA. Visitors wishing to stay are strongly encouraged to book accommodation as the town is extremely busy with school holiday visitors.
The usual catering and bar facilities will be available along with jumping castle for the kids. Strong bookies ring of nine or ten bookmakers and on course TAB facilities also.
See you all at Gunsynd Park Saturday for Racing at its Best in the West.
